Admin

How can I adjust my subscription or support plan?

To make changes to your subscription or support plan, please reach out directly to your account manager.

Not sure who your account manager is? Click the “?” icon in the top right corner of your Buildertrend account to start a chat with our Support team.


How can I add more company information to display on print-outs?

Admins may add up to 3 fields to appear on printouts in the header by navigating to Company Settings and Company Information.


Can I adjust what is shown on print-outs?

Yes, you can adjust what is shown on printouts after you select to Print, then by opening More Settings.


General

Why should I clear cookies & cache?

Clearing your browser history and cache can help speed up your computer and help address any oddities that arise when using online platforms.


What internet browsers work best with Buildertrend?

We recommend certain browsers that will enhance your experience in Buildertrend:

  • Chrome (Windows and Mac) - Click HERE to download

  • Firefox (Windows and Mac) - Click HERE to download

  • Safari (Mac) - Click HERE to download. (This should already be automatically downloaded on your Mac)

Some browsers can deter you from having the best experience. These may still be used; however, some new features may not display correctly or provide the best user experience:

  • Internet Explorer (Windows and Mac)

  • Safari (Windows Only)


What is the recommended resolution to view Buildertrend?

To be able to view all the information that you need in Buildertrend, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 is recommended. To learn how to change the resolution of your screen, please click HERE.


Job Management

Can the Job Details be edited from the mobile app?

Yes, you may access and edit the Job Details from the mobile app by opening Job Details tab and navigating as you would on the desktop.


Can I add or remove Job Groups to multiple jobs at once?

Yes, through the Jobs List, you can assign Job Type, Job Group, Job Status and Client(s) to multiple jobs at once using checked actions.


Can I add my clients to multiple jobs? How do they access their client portal for each job?

Yes, Client Contacts can be assigned to as many jobs as needed. To view all assigned jobs in their Client Portal, the contact must have an active status. They can switch between jobs using the job dropdown menu located in the top right corner of the portal. This allows them to view one job at a time, even if the jobs are associated with multiple builders.


Users

Can I reset my password?

Yes, you can reset your password by navigating to your User Profile Icon (initials in top right corner) and clicking Change Password within Security & Login tab. You will be asked to enter your current password before creating a new password.

You can always request a password request from the login page by clicking Forgot Password.

*Note: If you are having trouble logging in to your account and need to reset your user name or password, but do not have access within your account, please contact our support team at 1-888-415-7149.


Can I reset other another users password?

No, users can only reset their own password.


Can Admins control other users' settings?

Yes, Buildertrend Admins may adjust users' permissions and notifications by navigating to the User icon on the top right of their Buildertrend account to find Permissions, Notifications and Job Access tab.

In the 'Notifications' tab, set preferences for how the user will receive notifications (email, text, or push notifications). These settings can be adjusted at any time to suit the user's needs.

If you aren't receiving specific notifications, you will need to check the if you have the correct permissions set for the notifications you want to receive.


What permissions does a user need to see the notifications setting for Subs & Clients?

  • A user must have the 'View' permission turned on for 'Job Info' to see the Client notification table.

  • A user must have the 'View' permission turned on for 'Subs/Vendors' to see the Sub/Vendor notification table.


How can I edit Internal User Permissions?

Admins may edit Internal User permissions by navigating to the Internal Users tab within the User dropdown. Select the user, and navigate to Permissions.

BT Roles can be reassigned, but cannot be edited. To create a new role with custom permissions, click Manage Roles from within the Permissions tab, or click back to Overview tab.

Next, click Copy from another role. Create a Role title, and adjust permissions. Finally, assign users to this role.

Client Contacts

I have multiple contacts assigned to my job. Will they both be able to see the same information?

Yes, all contacts will have access to the same information, perform the same functions and receive the same notifications, except for when direct tagging or assigning is allowed. (To-Dos, Messaging, Comments, Direct Chat)


Why can't I click "Preview as Client" on the Job Info within the Clients tab?

A contact must be assigned for the "Preview as Client" function to be available.


I tried to invite my client, but got an error message that the primary email was already in use. What do I do?

  • Ensure that the Primary email is not being used on another Job

  • Merge duplicate contacts by navigating to Contacts and using Checked Actions

  • Change the Primary Email to one that is unique

    • One fix would be to move a secondary email to the Primary spot and shift the existing one to a secondary email spot


Can I add a profile picture for my client?

No, only the client may upload a photo once they are active.


Can I edit the contact information for my client after they're active?

No, only the client may edit their own contact details once they are active. You may add additional emails to the contact at any time.


Can I add the same client contact to multiple jobs?

Yes. You can complete this action by navigating to the Jobs List, selecting the Jobs that will have the same contact, then select Edit. Here, you may Add or Remove contacts by selecting "Client" from Field and the contact name in Value.

You may also complete this action from Mobile.


Custom Fields & Tags

What is the difference between Tags and Custom Fields?

Tags are simple labels for categorization, high-level details, and filtering. They are single-line text and must be added individually to each item.

Custom Fields allow you to add detailed information to features, visible to internal teams, trade partners, and clients. Once added, they appear on all new and existing jobs.


Do you have a recommended list of Custom Fields?

Due to their very specific need per company, we cannot provide a recommended list of Custom Fields.


Grids & Filters

What is the difference between a Grid View and a Filter?

Grid Views enable you to fill in information within a feature, while Filters help you search for specific details shown in the Grid.

Example: You’ve included a 'Date Paid' column in your Grid View of the Bills. By applying a filter, you can display only the Bills that have a Date Paid within the past 30 days.


If I set a filter as my default, will it become the default for everyone else?

No, your default filters are unique to you, even if others have access to the same filter.


If I delete a Filter or Grid View, will it remove for everyone?

If the Grid or Filter is shared with everyone, deleting it will remove it for your entire team. However, if it’s a private Grid View, it will only be deleted for you, as you are the only one with access to it.


Can I export my Grid?

Yes, you can select "Export" in the top right corner of any Grid that supports it to download an Excel document.
