Buildertrend Glossary for Clients

These are words you’ll commonly see while using Buildertrend.

Welcome to the Buildertrend Glossary! This guide is designed to help you navigate the key terms and features within Buildertrend and make the most of your Buildertrend experience.

A - C

Allowances

Allowances are a monetary placeholders that can be integrated with the selections, ensuring you stay within budget when choosing what goes into your project.

Attached Documents / Photos / Videos

Your builder may attach Documents / Photos / Videos to features Daily Logs, To-Do's and Warranty Claims to provide further detail.

Bills

Open book builders may choose to share Bills, payments made for material and work orders with their subcontractors and vendors.

Change Orders

This project management tool is used to record any out-of-scope requests that you submit to your builder after the contract has been signed.

Checklist

Additional or sub-tasks related to the larger To-Do.

Client

You, the client may be referenced within features as Client.

Client Invoices

This feature keeps track of what you owe your builder, providing a record of past payments and any upcoming payments, as shared by your builder.

Comments

A quick communication tool found within a feature, used when you need to send your builder a message related to that specific feature.


D - F

Daily Logs

Daily Logs are project updates that may be shared by your builder.

Direct Chat

A quick communication tool found within the top navigation menu, used when you need to send your builder a general message. This is most like a text message.

Documents

All project-related documents are stored in this Files feature, where you can easily access and manage everything in one convenient location, including any documents added as attachments.

Estimate

Your project contractor with your builder.

Files

Documents, Photos and Videos are all considered Files.

Filters

Filters allow you to narrow down information provided within a feature. For example, date range, or keywords are common filters.


G - I

Gantt

A Schedule view that uses predecessors to display tasks in the order they need to be completed, showing how each task is dependent on the previous one.

Help Center

You're here! The Help Center houses all Buildertrend articles focused on self-service. This allows you to get the answers to your Buildertrend questions as quickly as possible.

Hierarchy

This is a view within the Selections feature and is a great place to develop and manage any that are dependent upon each other.

ID#

For many features such as Change Orders and Warranty Claims, ID#s help you and your builder identify and manage items from one another.


J - L

Job Costing Budget

Open book builders may choose to share the Job Costing Budget, which tracks the project budget, as well as your invoices against their costs.

Linked Projects

If you have multiple projects with your builder, you're able to link projects together so you can access both projects from your Client Portal.

List View

This is a view within the Selections and Schedule features that displays information in a grid-like format.

Location

This is a view within the Selections feature that allows you to see selection choices organized by location.


M - O

Messages

This feature acts as your email address for your project. You may communicate with your building team using Messages for a formal style of messaging.

Notifications

Found within the Settings menu of your account, set your preferred notification method for new items your builder is wanting to alert you of. (Email, Text and Push from the Buildertrend mobile app).


P - R

Phases

Your builder may use Phases to organize and manage a grouping of items/tasks within the Schedule.

Photos

All project-related photos are stored in this Files feature, where you can easily access and manage everything in one convenient location, including any photos added as attachments.

Purchase Orders

Open book builders may choose to share Purchase Orders, which track material and work orders with their subcontractors and vendors.

Primary Account Owner

The primary user is the person listed as the first contact within an account. Each Buildertrend account can only have one primary user.

Project Financials

This is a financial breakdown of your initial contract price, change orders and selections, to calculate your Total Cost.


S - U

Schedule

Your builder utilizes the Schedule as their official timeline for your project.

Schedule Items

These are the events that have been created within the Schedule feature.

Selections

The Selections feature allows your builder to present different options to you to customize and personalize your project.

Settings

Manage your Contact Information, Login Information and Notifications from the initials on the top right of your Buildertrend account.

Status

This is a term in Buildertrend that refers to the progress of an item.

Sub/Vendor

Subcontractors and Vendors are individuals that your builder may partner with to complete work on your project.

Survey

Your builder may request your feedback during any stage of your project using Surveys.

Tags

Your builder may use Tags to help organize and manage tools within Buildertrend, such as Daily Logs.

To-Do's

Create your own tasks and checklists for anything related to your project. Additionally, your builder may assign you To-Do's with specific due dates for completion.


V - Z

Videos

All project-related Videos are stored in this Files feature, where you can easily access and manage everything in one convenient location, including any videos added as attachments.

Weather

Displayed within a Daily Logs to track accurate weather detail based on postal code of job. The weather information is pulled from Aeris Weather.
