An Estimate in Buildertrend incorporates Bids, Selections and Allowances as well as any costs not tied to a specific bid, selection, or allowance. Estimates are similar to Lead Proposals but not exactly the same.

What is the difference between a Lead Proposal and an Estimate?

Adding costs to Lead Proposals and Estimates: Costs are quick and easy to add. Adding costs will ensure better job costing and will allow you to quickly release a formatted Estimate to your client via email.

The Estimates feature can be located within the Financial header at the top of your Buildertrend page. In order to view an Estimate, a job must first be selected.

Initially, you'll be able to see the Cost Categories that are set up on your account. In order to estimate effectively, it is important to have your Cost Codes set up within the platform. This will help you achieve better detail when estimating and job costing. For more information regarding Cost Codes, please refer to the articles below.

Costs can be added to an Estimate in a variety of ways. They can be added with the Add New Cost button, from your Cost Catalog or from your Cost Codes.

From the Import drop-down, Estimates can be imported from Excel, templates or from a variety of third-party platforms.

On the right side of the screen, Estimates can be Locked, as well as formatted and shared with your clients.

By locking an Estimate, you will no longer be able to edit the costs you have initially estimated. However, you can manage and compare Revised Costs against the Original Estimate.

Please keep in mind that the Estimate can be formatted and shared with your clients at any time, whether the Estimate has been locked or not.
